After the snow blizzards, a Blue Jay came to look for food. Seeing her, I ran to the bird-feeder on the Fraser fir tree and filled it for the Red Cardinals, Junco, and Chickadees until it brimmed over.

When I went there, I saw some deer footprints by the river. They came to drink water in this desert of snow. All the nearby water became ice so long ago. Only the rivers have their tide, and the rivers have their waves.

When deer come to drink water by the river, why should I row my boat in those sunless rivers of Hades; in the streams of death; in the path of shadows watered by the Styx, Acheron, Cocytus, Phlegethon, and Lethe? Broken dreams and forgotten souls are floating there.

Snow-drops are bursting through the dead earth. Robins' nests are getting filled up with blue eggs. Both my palms are full of yellow Daffodils. Do you want some?
